  ### Which exams does this prepare me for?

Our content is specifically designed to help you prepare for:

American Board of Family Medicine ABFM sets the certification standards and exam requirement for U.S. family physicians seeking to earn and maintain board certification. Diplomates can meet the exam requirement through the Family Medicine Certification Longitudinal Assessment (FMCLA) or by taking the Family Medicine Certification Examination (one-day exam); residents pursuing initial certification must pass the one-day exam. Beginning in 2025, ABFM transitioned diplomates into a Continuous Certification 5‑Year Cycle built around ongoing participation in certification activities and cognitive assessment.

American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians AOBFP administers AOA board certification in Family Medicine and Family Medicine/OMT for eligible physicians. Initial primary certification includes a Written (Cognitive) Exam and, for those pursuing certification in Family Medicine and OMT, an OMT Performance Exam. After certification, diplomates maintain credentials through Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC) requirements.

College of Family Physicians of Canada The CFPC Certification Examination in Family Medicine is the national assessment leading to the CCFP designation for eligible residents and practice-eligible physicians. Candidates are tested across a written computer-based component (SAMPs) and an oral component of simulated office orals (SOOs). The CFPC has announced that beginning in April 2026 the SAMP format will transition from fully write-in responses toward MCQ/short-menu questions, with full transition planned for 2027.

Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners MRCGP is the RCGP’s integrated assessment system for GP specialty training, confirming that a doctor has met the standard for independent general practice in the UK. The RCGP describes three components: the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), the Simulated Consultation Assessment (SCA), and Workplace‑Based Assessment (WPBA). The SCA was introduced as the permanent replacement for the RCA, which had been a temporary assessment during the COVID‑19 period.

Membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners The MICGP Examination is the Irish College of GPs’ competency-based assessment that awards Membership of the Irish College of GPs. The College outlines three examination modules: Core Knowledge Test, Modified Essay Question, and Clinical Competency Test. Together, these modules assess applied knowledge, problem-solving, and real‑world GP consulting skills.

Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners The RACGP Fellowship examinations are the standard assessment route toward FRACGP, a key general practice credential in Australia. The RACGP notes that candidates who successfully complete all exam segments—Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), Key Feature Problem (KFP) and Clinical Competency Exam (CCE)—can apply for admission to Fellowship. The RACGP provides candidate guidance and resources for each segment, including detailed exam-day information for AKT and KFP.

Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine ACRRM’s Rural Generalist assessment program supports progression to Fellowship (FACRRM) through a mix of formative workplace-based activities and summative standardized assessments. The College lists core assessment modalities including logbooks, miniCEX, multi-source feedback (MSF), case-based discussion (CBD), a multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam, and the Structured Assessment using Multiple Patient Scenarios (StAMPS). StAMPS is described as the last assessment completed, testing performance across rural and remote practice contexts via a standardized viva.

Fellowship of The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners In New Zealand, the RNZCGP’s General Practice Education Programme (GPEP) is the vocational training pathway leading to Fellowship (FRNZCGP) and vocational registration in general practice. RNZCGP states that GPEP Year 1 concludes with both written and clinical examinations, and later stages culminate in a Fellowship assessment visit once clinical, academic, and examination requirements are met. The Fellowship assessment visit is performed in the registrar’s practice and assesses competence through observed consultations, record review, and discussion with an assessor.

International Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners MRCGP\[INT\] refers to RCGP-accredited international assessments that enable family doctors outside the UK to demonstrate competence against locally developed, RCGP-accredited standards. The RCGP states that passing an MRCGP\[INT\] accredited assessment makes a doctor eligible to apply for RCGP international membership and use the post‑nominals MRCGP\[INT\]. These accredited assessments are country-specific and do not confer any right to practise as a GP in the UK.

Fellowship of the College of Family Physicians of South Africa The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA) administers the FCFP(SA) as the national fellowship exit examination for specialist family physicians. CMSA outlines a final assessment consisting of three online written papers (MCQ, short-answer, and critical reading) followed by a clinical examination for candidates who achieve the required written standard. The fellowship is awarded once training and portfolio requirements (and all exam components) are fulfilled.

Arab Board of Health Specializations The Arab Board of Health Specializations (Arab Board) oversees specialty certification in Family Medicine across participating countries in the Arab region. For Family Medicine, the Board publishes a primary examination and final examinations, including a final cognitive exam delivered in English using multiple-choice papers and a final practical exam delivered as multiple clinical stations. Candidates typically must pass the final cognitive exam before being eligible for the final practical assessment.
